Mark Nowell, Cisco

Mark Nowell is a Senior Director of Engineering in Cisco’s Data Center team. His focus is on next generation network architecture, interconnect strategy and driving technology innovation to meet Cisco’s needs. Mark is also active within the industry standards and forums and is currently chair of the IEEE 802.3 25 Gb/s Ethernet Task Force and previously chair of the IEEE 802.3bg project on 40 Gb/s single-mode fiber PMD. He is past chair of the Ethernet Alliance’s High Speed Ethernet (40GbE/100GbE) Technical committee and current chair of their 400GbE Technical committee. Before Cisco, Mark previously worked at Hewlett-Packard Research Labs.

Mark earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees at Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada, and his Ph.D. at Cambridge University in Cambridge, UK.
