ETHERNET ALLIANCE NEWSLETTER – Q1 2019

Welcome to 2019 – A Message from the Chair

Over the past few years Ethernet has evolved at an unprecedented pace – as six new speeds and a multitude of new electrical interfaces, electrical PHYs, and optical PHYs were introduced.  With the progression to higher speeds lane rates beyond 25 Gb/s, PAM4 was leveraged to create 50 Gb/s and 100 Gb/s lane rates.  And let’s not forget the new PoE standard that was recently ratified that will enable PSE’s to provide up to 90W.

This led to an extraordinary 2018 for the Ethernet Alliance.  Our interoperability demos at OFC and ECOC and two high speed plugfests on products ranging from 25GbE to 400GbE combined are helping the industry to develop confidence in PAM4 signaling.  Our PoE Certification Program kicked off the year with its introduction of first 37 certified products.  And we have signed an MoU with the NBASE-T Alliance to effectively transfer their assets to us, and for them to continue their efforts in our BASE-T Subcommittee.

With all this activity, I am happy to say we welcomed nearly a dozen new members in the past four months.  I would like to take a moment to welcome the following companies into our family –

  • Cassia Networks
  • Credo Semiconductors
  • ExFo Inc.
  • Foxconn Optical Interconnect Technologies, Inc.
  • Infinite Electronics
  • ON Semiconductor
  • Source Photonics
  • Spectra7 Microsystems
  • Ubiquiti Networks, Inc.
  • Wilder Technologies
  • Xena Networks Aps

2019 is shaping up to be a busy year with the following activities currently underway or in the planning stages:

We are looking forward to perhaps one of the busiest years in Ethernet Alliance history.  The Ethernet Alliance is directing its resources to the fulfillment of its mission to provide resources to the interoperability of these products and technologies, which will help to accelerate their adoption and deployment.  The greater the participation from our members, the greater the impact we can have on the industry.  So help us spread the word within your companies of all of these great activities that are underway.  The more the merrier!

Thanks,

John D’Ambrosia, Chairman – Ethernet Alliance
